In an ideal world, all children would have ease of access to behavioral health care. However, only about 20% of children in need are actually connected to a mental health professional. Some barriers to care include: a lack of providers in the region, long waitlists, and transportation issues. Additionally, citizenship status, high therapy costs, and underinsurance can further strain a child's access to quality care.
Socioeconomic status should never be a barrier to mental wellness. If your child lacks insurance or is underinsured, they may be eligible for free or low-cost services through the Paloma Project. Please reach out today to learn more!
